The Ins and Outs of Using Your Knee Scooter

Itā€™s an on-the-go world, and that means even an injury to your foot, ankle, or any other lower extremities shouldnā€™t stop you from getting around and accomplishing your daily tasks. It used to be that the only options for getting around when you were injured were uncomfortable crutches, or cumbersome wheelchairs. But with the knee scooter, weā€™ve created a medically designed, mobility device that can provide diverse functionality.

If youā€™re wondering how to get around on your new device, read on.

Get your Bearings

When starting off we recommend wearing shoes that provide you with a good grip to stop any slipping. Stand up in front of the knee scooter and place your knee at the center of the comfortable cushion. If you need to adjust the height to a more comfortable level you can do so easily, with options ranging between comfortable heights for anyone from 3ā€™6, to 6ā€™8 depending on the model. The handlebars are designed to be around waist-height and are also adjustable if need be.

Get Moving

Before you set off make sure that the handbrake is on, so that you donā€™t start rolling too early. Keep your healthy leg in line with your hips and keep firm contact on the floor.Ā  Youā€™re going to be using this limb to push off and propel yourself forwards. Once youā€™ve gotten everything else adjusted and youā€™re comfortable with your position, you can slowly release the brake and start moving forwards.

Itā€™s going to take some time for you to get comfortable using your knee scooter so start slow, and get a handle on maneuvering around and increase your skill as you go. If youā€™ve just started to recover from your surgery or injury, then itā€™s possible your physical conditioning isnā€™t the best, take your time and work your way up to fitness so you can get the most out of your device.

When turning or maneuvering keep the brakes set so that youā€™re in control of your knee walker, we donā€™t want it getting away from you. Check the nuts and bolts periodically and ensure theyā€™re tight so that you donā€™t have to deal with any loose parts during a walk in the park.

Go Anywhere

The main benefit the knee scooter offers is its mobility. It can cover a range of terrains both indoors and outdoors, and the responsive handling system makes navigation a breeze too. All of these benefits come while you keep all the weight off your injured leg, a perfect solution for anyone recovering from injury or surgery.
